Granada Hills, California. The first residence built in this new community--known as Sunshine Ranch (now known as Granada Hills), was erected on the southwest corner of White Oak and Kingsbury. The occupants of  this home were Captain and Mrs. John L. Butler. Captain Butler had been the Chief of Police of the City of Los Angeles during World War I. In 1926, Captain Butler retired and moved to this home, in what is now the central portion Of Granada Hills. Here he would live out his remaining years. Later that year, the first commercial building was completed at 17645 Chatsworth Street.

The original name selected for this division of the San Fernando Valley was "Granada" or "Town of Granada" named for the sister city Granada Spain. Granada Spain lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range and has nearly the same climate conditions as the San Fernando Valley. The United States Postal Service had rejected the name of "Granada" as it conflicted with a already existing town with the same name so in 1927 the town became officially known as Granada Hills.

Today the area is as beautiful as it was back then. The landscaping and citrus trees are some of the fullest and most beautiful you will come to find in the whole area. The community spirit is shown in full force and neighbors pride themselves on having the ability to work together and make the area a better place for residents to live.
